The Fallen Fortress is a new formicarium design from Tar Heel Ants.  This design for your ant colonies features a 4x4x4" foraging area magnetically attached to the back of a 4x4x2 inch nest.  This is a very similar design to our popular Fortress formicarium.

Water Tower-D Information

 This Fallen Fortress has a Double water tower configuration.   This allows for superior control over hydration points and humidity control.  In addition, each water tower is  adorned with stronger stainless-steel mesh as additional Defense against any potential damage to the water tower surfaces caused on rare occasions by strong, sharp mandibles of certain species.  For example, certain larger Pheidole spp., and select other species, can bend stainless steel mesh and other materials used commonly in formicarium construction.

Two water towers provide a wider range of control over Fallen Fortress and can increase the overall humidity as a result.  This is not necessary for the majority of Camponotus species (or other dry-inclined species).  The standard water tower configuration is 100% capable of supporting formicaria for a vast majority of ant species, so only apply this modification to the Fallen Fortress, “Water Tower-D” when necessary.  TIP: You do not need to always fill both water towers, another potential strategy in using this formicarium design!  Ants will typically keep their brood on or very near the water tower, so this can be used to modify care routines as needed.

Options

Removable vent - The removable vent is best explained by calling it a "lid on a lid".  This second lid is removable via magnets from the main lid.  The purpose is to provide easy access to the foraging area to drop in food items.  This is especially helpful when your habitat contains lots of hungry ants (perhaps it was too long since they were fed....) that are climbing on the upper parts of the foraging area walls.
