***Tiny ants can occasionally slip past the GLASS lids. A thin silicone seal has now been added to all orders for tiny-small species to prevent this.***
Atom C is a new founding chamber from Tar Heel Ants designed for all species of ants. The design features very slight overhangs on the sides to give more cover and privacy to species that to tend become easily alarmed by light. Small queens will find the design of the Atom C better able to provide them with some "nooks and crannies" (while keeping ants 100% visible) and large ants will find adequate space of room to accommodate even the largest queens and their young colonies.
Note : For more pronounced ledges that are beneficial for a very few species ("honey pot" ants mainly...) please use the comment fields during checkout to make such a request.

The Atom C does not come with a foraging areas as standard. One can be added as an option. This addition turns the Atom C into a type of Inception Chamber at that point. Otherwise an Atom C can be placed down inside a foraging area habitat of your choice or connected using tubing. Tubing connection sizes are an option as well (1/4", 5/16", or 3/8").
The hydration of an Atom C is simply using the included syringe and keeping the water tower around 50-75% full. We do not recommend over-filling the Atom C water tower. It is important to not tip or tilt the Atom C while the water tower has water inside. These instructions are important for many formicaria, but even more so when the ants are so localized to the water tower.
What are some of the reasons for choosing Atom A, B, or C?
In short, Atom C is a more universal habitat. Atom C are larger and better suited as a long-term habitat for colonies of several dozen large ants or several hundred small ants as well. Atom A and Atom B both are smaller than Atom C and thus save space versus the 3" diameter (1-1.25" for A and B) of an Atom C. The water tower inside the Atom C is capable of holding 7ml of water. This is another benefit of the Atom C over the Atom A and B. Only the Atom B (2 nestmates) has water reservoirs aside from the Atom C. The Atom C is intended to be filled every 2-4 weeks! Atom A is exceptional at founding tiny and small ant species but needs hydration ever 1-2 days compared with the Atom B and C which is perhaps every 2-3 weeks (Depending on surrounding conditions).
Atom C Recommended species - ALL. Highly recommended for Pogonoymyrmex species, "Honey Pot" Ants, Formica species, and Camponotus species. Atom C also has increased long-term humidity control and a larger area for larger ant species.
Atom B Recommended species - Formica, Camponotus, Aphaenogaster, Solenopsis (these are local examples only and not an all inclusive list)
The Atom C was designed to accommodate species that prefer very tight quarters as well as those species that are very "jumpy" when disturbed (it gives more privacy and thus more difficult to disturb young queens in them). The species we tested in them responded favorably (Pogonomyrmex occidentalis, Camponotus castaneus, Camponotus chromaiodes, and multiple Aphaenogaster species).
